Taking off from Chicago.
Flying over Japan.

Advertising nerds photographing Tokyo ads.

Flying into Osaka. For the trip, we took three planes and one van ride.

26 Hours of Travel - There's One Reason to Never Travel to Japan

Instead of worrying about a 12 hour plane ride, I should have obsessed a little about 26 hours of travel. If a person is able to sleep on the long flight, it is probably bearable but if not, it is a long, long day.

The flight was interesting. It is Japanese custom to clean your hands before a meal, so the stewardess gave every passenger a tiny hot washcloth to clean their hands. I had my first Japanese food on the flight. A bag of crackers that contained squid and shrimp among other things. Then they gave us snacks and two meals. I did not eat much. The plane ride was uncomfortable. I wanted to sleep but I couldn't.

I can't wait to check my bag on the flight home.

Random facts:
Japan is 14 hours ahead of the United States
The yen equals .013 dollars - at least on the day I converted my money.

Randon observations:
Japan is crazy clean.
Japanese people are extremely nice.
Ramen noodle soup here is ridiculously good.
I am very, very tired.
Japanese people like uniforms.

Tokyo airport was very quiet and not as busy as I thought it would be. Osaka reminded me of the film, Blade Runner. It was dark and rainy with womens' voices on speakers and neon lights. The feeling of the area from what I could see was very industrial.

That's all about the trip. I'm sure I will decide 26 hours of travel will be a small price to pay for this experience.

Shunko-In, Myoshinji Temple, Kyoto

For the first part of the trip, we will be staying in Kyoto, Japan at the Shunkoin Temple. Click the link above to view the Shunkoin Temple website to learn about the temple, the people and meditation.
